Holtermann's Corner Stores
| Holtermann’s Corner was built in 1872 in two sections
by Bernard Otto Holtermann. On the 19th October 1872 Holtermann became
well known for finding the largest gold specimen in the world. The gold
find became known as the Beyer’s & Holtermann Specimen.
The corner building was occupied by Bray’s Dispensary, Baptiste’s Paris hair cutting shop and Wood Bakery. The other building at the time consisted of more shops these included a dressmaker and milliner operated by Mrs. McDowell. There was also a barber and part time palm reader operated by Professor Curtain. Holtermann’s Corner was the biggest inland shopping complex in N.S.W. After the gold ran out and Hill End’s population declined from 8000 people to a few hundred the buildings were left unoccupied and started to deteriorate Over the past 15 years the premises have undergone major renovations.
